Real Betis star Fran García has revealed his take that another of his fellow Spanish national team stars is more deserving of the Ballon d’Or than Lamine Yamal.
The player in question? Fabián Ruiz.
Wide-man Lamine has of course spent recent weeks building a case for himself as, in the eyes of many, the favourite to lift the ‘Golden Ball’ for 2026 later this month.
The 19-year-old, fresh off a stellar individual campaign last time out, has followed up on World Cup glory over the summer by taking his production to a whole new level with Spain and Barcelona alike.
Speaking during an exchange with the media after featuring from the off in Spain’s victory over Czechia on Saturday, the aforementioned Fran García was therefore drawn on the name of his young compatriot. And the summer Real Betis signing was quick to assure:
”For me, he is one of the best players in the world, yes, without a doubt. One of the best, yes.”
Asked whether Lamine should in turn be crowned the next Ballon d’Or winner, however, Fran went on to admit:
”For me, I would choose Fabián Ruiz. Even if he isn’t as eye-catching a player as Yamal.”
