Nuno Espirito Santo admits West Ham’s January transfer window was not perfect, but says his squad has been “rebalanced” and is ready to secure survival.
The Hammers brought in strikers Taty Castellanos and Pablo, winger Adama Traore and defender Axel Disasi, as well as selling midfielder Lucas Paqueta.
“We brought in players that we can see make sense to us in terms of rebalancing our squad,” Espirito Santo said, reflecting on the window.
“The players that came in can help. Of course, there were other things going on but it’s a very tricky window to operate.
“But I think we have a committed squad now, and we have to move forward. Of course it’s not always perfect but the main reason I think is that we’ve been able to rebalance our squad and become competitive.”
Asked if he was disappointed not to add more new signings, he said: “We have to realise that you can have targets but those targets are at other clubs.
“It’s not only what you want but what the other clubs do also.
“Our fans must understand that the transfer window of January is very difficult to operate. It’s more about rebalancing and understanding what we need in the last matches of the season.
“I’m totally convinced that we’re going to be okay. This is what I can tell to our fans. We are positive, we are working, we are committed, we are aware of the situation and the responsibility that is on us.
“Definitely we rebalanced the squad. We have options and the players are committed. That is, more than anything, important.”
