This weekend represents a very special matchup for Chivas Femenil. Not only will they play a Clásico Tapatío, but it will also be the 25th edition of this rivalry in the women’s league.
For Guadalajara, returning to the winning path is paramount, and what better way to do it than against its bitter city rival from the Pearl of Guadalajara. With that objective in mind, Antonio Contreras’ side has an important factor on its side: its status as the “away” team is merely administrative, both on and off the field.
Since the creation of the Liga Femenil, the Rebaño has played 6 regular-season matches at the Coloso de la Calzada Independencia, with an overwhelming record: it has defeated Atlas in every single one. That’s right, Chivahermanos: 18 points out of a possible 18 for the Rojiblancos at their second home. We can also add that they came through successfully in the rivalry’s only postseason edition, which ended in a goalless draw.
Of course, in each of the 6 Clásicos Tapatíos at the ‘Monumental’, we have celebrated at least one Chivas Femenil goal. The tally stands at 15 goals scored and only 3 conceded, along with 4 clean sheets.
The numbers, quality and mentality are all on Guadalajara’s side, and this Friday, alongside the Nación Rojiblanca that will fill Estadio Jalisco, they will look to show their best version in the most important match in Guadalajara soccer.
