According to ESPN Argentina, Estudiantes are weighing up calling 40-year-old Enzo Pérez for the Copa Libertadores semi-final with Flamengo, though the idea has not yet become a negotiation. No approach has been made and Pérez currently plays for second-tier Deportivo Maipú.
Conmebol permits up to three changes to the 50-man squad list, and Infobae reports the deadline is Friday, 9 October, so a late addition could feature in both legs.
The search intensified after a 3-1 Supercopa Internacional defeat to Rosario Central, when two midfielders were injured. Estudiantes later confirmed Gabriel Neves suffered a left wrist fracture, underwent surgery, and is expected to be out for about three months.
Jalil Elías has a grade two hamstring injury and is expected to miss around one month, likely out of the first leg and doubtful for the return at the Maracanã. Centre-backs Tomás Palacios and Leandro González Pirez are also suspended for the semi-final.
Before any move, Estudiantes would need to resolve Marcos Rojo’s situation with Racing, the 36-year-old under contract until 31 December 2026. Pérez is tied to Deportivo Maipú until December 2026, and any deal would hinge on his wishes.
If it progresses, Pérez could face a familiar foe, having started for River Plate in the 2019 final in Lima, where Flamengo won 2-1 with two late goals from Gabigol.
