Leeds United earned a thrilling point in West London on Tuesday night, overcoming a late two-goal deficit to earn a point against Liam Rosenior’s high-flying Chelsea.

With the draw, the Whites have lost just twice in their last fourteen matches in all competitions, a run of form exceeded only by league-leaders Arsenal and Manchester City.

In the aftermath of United’s comeback, captain Ethan Ampadu spoke to the media.

“I think we are delighted,” the Welsh international said. “They are a very good team and they have a lot of quality. They showed that today and to pick up four points against them, we are obviously very delighted.

“It was definitely a game of two halves. We started the game as we wanted to but then I think they had a couple of moments where they opened us up a little bit and we got sucked into that and allowed spaces.

“When you play against a fantastic team, they find that and they put the ball in the back of the net so at half-time we had the belief that we could change it, we just needed a little bit to change momentum and get it back on our side.

“We still had the full belief that no matter what happened in the second half whether we scored first, or they scored first that we could change the game and get a positive result for ourselves.”

Ampadu praised teammates Lukas Nmecha, whose penalty the midfielder labelled “clinical and confident,” and Jayden Bogle, who set up Noah Okafor for Leeds’ second goal.

“Jayden was absolutely important,” Ampadu said. “I think if he does not persist to make that run and drive, we might not get that second and credit to him for allowing Noah to have a tap-in. I think that shows the ethic of our team at the minute.

“We want to work hard. We want to chase everything. We know we have to win every duel that we go into, and I think that second goal shows that.

“It is a good feeling for this night, but we know there is still a very long way to go, and we have to make sure that this is justified.”
