Ethan Mbappe has been handed a three-match Champions League ban after his red card against Real Betis, UEFA confirmed.

The Lille midfielder, 19, was dismissed in a 3-2 defeat three weeks ago for elbowing defender Natan, an incident upheld by VAR. Monday’s disciplinary report listed the offence as assaulting another player.

It was only his third appearance in the competition. His previous two outings for Lille came in 2024-25, a 6-1 win over Feyenoord and a 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund.

Mbappe has emerged as a key figure this season, making six appearances across all competitions with one goal and one assist.

The suspension will rule him out of the visit to Arsenal, the home meeting with Galatasaray, and the trip to Bodo/Glimt. He is eligible to return on 25 November when Bayern Munich visit the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

After Bayern, Lille have three league-phase fixtures left, away to Stuttgart, at home to Slovan Bratislava, then away to Roma on the final matchday. He remains involved with France Under-21s and is currently on international duty for their 2027 European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign, co-hosted by Albania and Serbia.
