A lot of promising Manchester United academy wonderkids are currently out on loan, hoping to catch Ruben Amorim’s attention while playing competitive senior football elsewhere.

Ethan Williams is one such ace, who earned a loan move to Scottish side Falkirk in the summer. While from the outside, it might look like an unglamorous move, current United fan favourite Amad also spent a season there with Rangers.

And playing in the Scottish Premiership is far from easy, as the Ivorian will attest to. He had advised the 19-year-old regarding the do’s and don’ts before the switch, and the Carrington graduate is doing fairly well.

In eight games, Ethan Williams has managed one goal and three assists. And United are keeping a close watch on developments.

In an interview with Falkirk Herald, the Mancunian said, “I hear from the under-18s and under-21s coaches mainly. I’ve mentioned Darren Fletcher before. It is him and Travis Binnion normally. Them or one of the leadership team will check in with me. They make sure I am okay. Will I get a call from Darren, hopefully so after a good performance!”

He makes it clear that he is planning to use the SPFL as a stepping stone to success at the Theatre of Dreams, much like Amad.

“At a club like Man United, they have so much talent. I know the past years haven’t gone the way that people expected but for me as a United fan, to be able to play for them would be a dream come true.

“That is the goal. Right now I am focused on being at Falkirk and gathering as much experience as I can to be able to play at a great level like the Premier League. All the attacking players have different styles and elements to their game. I can watch and learn from them.

Following Amad’s advice

“I’m talking about Bruno (Fernandes) – the captain – Amad (Diallo), the new signings like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. You never know how life turns out. I guess I am doing well and Amad (Diallo) didn’t do quite so well. Amad has gone back to Man United, had a very good season with Sunderland in the Championship and now he is playing at a really high level.

“Fair play to him. I did speak to him before coming up here. I knew it was a tough time for him. I’ve just tried to take on the advice and keep things rolling. I just want gather as much experience as I can while I am here. I knew within myself before speaking to him that Scotland would be a tough level. The reputation speaks for itself.

Ruben Amorim rates him highly, and the 19-year-old was included in the pre-season squad that went to the US. He even scored in one game and naturally, plenty of clubs were circling.

Ethan Williams did sign a contract extension before departing, and now for him to keep the form up so that he can come back and make an impact for the United first team.
