Liverpool are looking to terminate Stefan Bajcetic’s deal at Red Bull Salzburg and send him out on loan elsewhere in the January transfer window.

The 20-year-old midfielder joined Salzburg on loan during the summer window, signed by former Reds assistant coach Pepijn Lijnders. However, Liverpool have decided to end the loan deal after Lijnders’ sacking last month.

The central midfielder made six starts in midfield and a further six appearances have come from the bench in the Austrian Bundesliga. He also made one start in the Champions League this season.

According to Fabrizio Romano, La Liga club Real Betis are in advanced talks to sign Bajcetic on loan in January, and they are progressing well in the deal.

As of now, Betis have yet to strike a deal with Liverpool, but it appears that they are firmly in the race to sign him on loan this month.

Liverpool need to protect Stefan Bajcetic properly

Bajcetic is a fantastic talent. He has progressed through the academy ranks at Liverpool after joining from Celta Vigo.

In 2022-23, he made 20 senior appearances for the Reds, and Jurgen Klopp hailed him as an “exceptional” talent, adding that he is a pure joy to work with.

However, Arne Slot cannot guarantee him regular game time at the moment, and it is best for him to enjoy loan spells elsewhere.

While he was playing regularly at RB Salzburg, Liverpool probably felt that a move to Betis could be beneficial for his growth and development.

Liverpool must use their wealth of academy talents properly next season. The likes of Bajcetic and Ben Doak are fantastic talents, and they deserve opportunities at Anfield.

Bajcetic was flying under Klopp before his progress was halted by injuries. He has tremendous potential, and it looks like a sensible decision made by Liverpool to send him out on loan in Spain, where the league is more competitive.

The deal is not completed yet, but it appears that there is a willingness from all parties to get it done in the coming days.
