Barcelona are expected to move on a number of players before the summer transfer window closes at the start of September. Tommy Marques is about to join Braga on a permanent deal, and following him out of the exit door will almost certainly be fellow midfielder Marc Casado.
Going into the summer, Barcelona had decided to sell Casado, and that was before a move for Rodri was ever under consideration. With the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner set to join from Manchester City after a deal was agreed in the last 24 hours, Casado’s departure is now expected to be fast-tracked.
For weeks, Al Hilal have been favourites to sign Casado, and Barcelona would welcome a deal, knowing that the Saudi Pro League side would pay the highest amount for the La Masia graduate. However, a deal looks unlikely now, with Fabrizio Romano (via Sport) reporting that Saudi Arabia is not an option that appeals much to the midfielder.
Casado is keen to remain in Europe upon leaving Barcelona, which is something that he has already accepted. In terms of interested clubs, those in the Premier League plus AC Milan have shown interest, although negotiations are not advanced with anyone at this stage.
Barcelona are clear that they want at least €30m to sell Casado this summer. They are prepared to keep him if their asking price is not met, although the feeling is that at least one club will come in and meet their demands before the transfer window closes – especially if that club is from the Premier League, considering the money on offer there.
It does make sense for Casado to leave now, knowing that he will not see any action if he stays at Barcelona. His value is relatively high, and it will only decrease if his prominence drops until remaining at the Spotify Camp Nou.
