Everton defender Vitaliy Mykolenko is drawing attention from several top European clubs, with both Spain and Italy monitoring the Ukrainian’s situation ahead of the January transfer window. Having quietly developed into one of the Premier League’s more consistent full-backs, the 25-year-old’s progress at Goodison Park has not gone unnoticed abroad.
Since joining Everton from Dynamo Kyiv in January 2022, Mykolenko has established himself as a reliable presence in the Toffees’ back line. Initially viewed as a long-term replacement following Lucas Digne’s departure, the Ukrainian international has steadily become a mainstay under a succession of managers, demonstrating defensive maturity and tactical discipline.
His ability to balance defensive solidity with attacking intent has impressed scouts across Europe. Sources indicate that both Real Madrid and AC Milan have tracked his performances closely in recent months. Mykolenko’s form, particularly his recovery pace and positional awareness, has been highlighted as a key asset in Everton’s efforts to stabilise their defence amid a turbulent period for the club.

Mykolenko remains under contract at Goodison Park until June 2026, with an option for a further year, placing Everton in a strong position should formal offers arrive. Club sources suggest there is no immediate intention to sell, especially given his growing influence within the squad. However, the financial realities of the Premier League and Everton’s ongoing efforts to balance their books mean that a significant offer could test their resolve.
It is understood that any approach would need to be “particularly advantageous” for discussions to even begin. Mykolenko’s versatility, capable of operating both as a traditional left-back and as part of a back three, adds further value to his profile — a factor not lost on clubs accustomed to tactical flexibility such as Real Madrid and Milan.
The interest from La Liga and Serie A underscores Mykolenko’s rising stock beyond English football. In Spain, Real Madrid view him as a potential squad option capable of providing depth and reliability on the left side of defence, particularly with Ferland Mendy’s future uncertain. AC Milan, meanwhile, have long admired players who combine defensive diligence with work rate and professionalism, traits that Mykolenko has consistently displayed since his arrival in England.
Although no formal bids have been made, scouts from both clubs have been regular visitors to Everton fixtures this season. A continuation of his current form could make Mykolenko one of the more sought-after defenders in next summer’s market, particularly if he maintains his strong performances for Ukraine in international competitions.
For Everton, the situation presents a delicate balance between financial prudence and sporting ambition. Mykolenko has become one of the few constants in an evolving squad, his dependability offering much-needed stability amid managerial changes and off-field uncertainty. Allowing him to leave would undoubtedly create another hole to fill, yet substantial offers from Europe’s elite could prove tempting if reinvestment opportunities arise.
As things stand, Mykolenko remains firmly part of Everton’s plans, with no intention of forcing a move. Nonetheless, his name is now firmly on the radar of clubs accustomed to shopping in the Premier League, where proven defensive talent rarely comes cheap.
