Under the soft grey skies of Manchester, Erling Haaland once again proved himself unstoppable. The Norwegian marksman’s second-half brace lifted Manchester City to a composed yet commanding 2-0 win over Everton.
For much of the first half, Manchester City toiled. Everton, organised and disciplined under David Moyes, refused to yield easily. Beto squandered the visitors’ best opening, missing from close range. Manchester City, meanwhile, flickered without truly burning, their rhythm disrupted by Everton’s compact midfield trio.
But Manchester City have a way of bending moments to their will. When Nico O’Reilly arced in a cross from the left just before the hour after Phil Foden’s clever pass found him in acres of space, Haaland rose with predatory certainty, powering his header into the net. Five minutes later, the striker doubled the lead, drilling a low finish past Jordan Pickford after neat interplay between Phil Foden and Savinho. It was all the breathing room Pep Guardiola’s side needed.
Everton’s resistance had been commendable, but Manchester City’s efficiency-personified by Haaland’s two cold-blooded finishes-ultimately made the difference.
Gianluigi Donnarumma – 6.5/10
Barely troubled, but his concentration never wavered. Commanded his box well and dealt calmly with Everton’s few forays forward.
Matheus Nunes – 7/10
Solid if unspectacular at right-back. Used the ball wisely, maintaining City’s rhythm and covering intelligently when Everton countered through Ndiaye.
Rúben Dias – 7/10
Led by example, as always. Crisp in his distribution and composed under Beto’s physical pressure. His forward run initiated the passage leading to Manchester City’s opener.
Nathan Aké – 6.5/10
Rusty at first but quietly effective alongside Dias. Matched Beto’s movement well and kept things steady in one-on-one duels.
Nico O’Reilly – 8/10
Another mature performance from the youngster. Showed excellent timing and technique to deliver the cross for Haaland’s header. Grew in confidence defensively as the match progressed.
Nico González – 7.5/10
Controlled the tempo through measured passing. Rarely wasteful, and his positional intelligence allowed Manchester City to pin Everton deeper as the match wore on.
Tijjani Reijnders – 6/10
Struggled to impose himself early and looked slightly off the pace before being replaced. His passing lacked its usual incision.
Phil Foden – 8/10
The creative heartbeat of the Citizens midfield. Split Everton’s backline with a gorgeous pass to O’Reilly for the opener and was heavily involved in the build-up to Haaland’s second. Buzzed around intelligently between the lines.
Savinho – 7/10
Direct and purposeful. The Brazilian provided the assist for Haaland’s second goal and constantly stretched Everton’s defensive shape.
Erling Haaland – 9/10
A textbook display of elite centre-forward play. Two chances, two goals-one towering header, one precise low finish. Now with 11 goals in eight league games, Haaland’s form continues to define Pep Guardiola side campaign.
Jérémy Doku – 6.5/10
Electric early on, but his end product faded. Still, he offered vital width and threat before being substituted.
Bernardo Silva – 6.5/10
Came on to steady the Citizens midfield and did exactly that. Helped close the game out with his trademark composure.
Oscar Bobb – 7/10
Bright cameo. Linked smartly with Foden in the build-up to the second goal. Energetic and creative in limited minutes.
Rayan Cherki – N/A
Late return from injury, limited time to make an impression.
Mateo Kovačić – N/A
Brought on for the closing stages to shore up midfield control.
Rico Lewis – N/A
Introduced late; didn’t feature long enough for a fair rating.
Jordan Pickford – 5.5/10
Helpless for both goals but made a strong late save to deny Haaland a hat-trick. His distribution under pressure was inconsistent.
Jake O’Brien – 6/10
Held his own against Doku’s bursts. Disciplined positionally but limited with the ball.
James Tarkowski – 6/10
Battled fiercely in the air but couldn’t prevent Haaland from finding space for the opener.
Michael Keane – 6/10
Similar story-solid for long periods, undone by City’s clinical finishing.
Vitaliy Mykolenko – 6.5/10
Had his hands full with Doku but defended stoutly. Pushed forward occasionally to support Ndiaye.
James Garner – 5.5/10
Worked tirelessly but couldn’t gain a foothold in midfield. Subbed after 70 minutes.
Idrissa Gueye – 6/10
Disciplined and industrious in shielding the backline, though he struggled to track City’s rotations.
Iliman Ndiaye – 8.5/10
Everton’s standout performer. Energetic, intelligent, and brave on the ball. Created several openings that teammates failed to capitalise on.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 6/10
Showed flashes of invention but lacked consistency. Withdrawn late.
Carlos Alcaraz – 5.5/10
Anonymous for large spells. Unable to influence proceedings in the final third.
Beto – 5/10
Missed Everton’s best chance of the game. Worked hard but was wasteful in possession.
Merlin Röhl – 4/10
Failed to offer much control after replacing Garner.
Tim Iroegbunam – 4.5/10
Struggled to cope with City’s midfield press.
Thierno Barry – 5/10
Showed effort but little end product.
Dwight McNeil – N/A
Late introduction; no impact.
Tyler Dibling – N/A
When Manchester City needed a breakthrough, Haaland delivered-again. Two goals in five minutes, both executed with clinical detachment, turned a cagey contest into another victory. He remains Guardiola’s most decisive weapon.
Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Everton was defined by familiar themes: patience, precision, and the predatory brilliance of Haaland. Guardiola’s men moved up to the top in the Premier League, as the title race tightens heading into the winter stretch.
