Eva González: the harmony of destroying to build

Every team has players who are more eye-catching than others, but that does not necessarily make them more or less important. Because of the nature of the game, we tend to focus on those who create momentum going forward, while there is a tremendous amount of work behind them that allows the ball to reach those areas.

The “silent” work deserves just as much recognition, and if there is someone who takes it to the next level, it is Eva González. Since putting on the No. 16 jersey, she has needed no introduction: she has become an indispensable part of Antonio Contreras’ starting XI, consistently delivering strong performances.

At times, Eva can seem omnipresent, as she has an incredible ability to cover ground thanks to her reading of the game, which allows her to be well positioned during every phase of play. She also knows when to drop deeper and provide support to create 2-v-1 situations. Combining physical endurance, understanding of the game and individual technique, she becomes an invaluable asset for Chivas Femenil.

As we mentioned, González is always in the right place to win the ball back or break up an opponent’s attack. But her work does not end there. When she has the opportunity to retain possession, she becomes an important weapon in building Guadalajara’s attacks. Her numbers so far in the Apertura 2026 are proof of that: she has completed more than 60 passes in the opposition half.

Experience tells her when to move forward and when it is better to slow things down and combine with her teammates in defense, using possession to reset the play. In short, she is the perfect pendulum for Guadalajara.

This Sunday, Chivas Femenil will face Atlético San Luis, and having Eva González on their side will undoubtedly be an advantage. That is why she will be the player to watch at Estadio AKRON.
