Manchester United Women have undergone some major changes this summer.

New manager

The biggest change has been the departure of Marc Skinner, who left the club on Monday.

The English manager has been replaced by Spaniard Eva Olid, who managed Hearts of Midlothian to a Scottish title last season.

The 40-year-old Catalan coach stated that she was very excited to work with such a talented squad in such “outstanding” training facilities.

Extended interview

Speaking to the club’s official website, Olid discussed numerous other subjects in her first official interview at United.

When asked why she chose to join United, she said it was the “dream” of any coach to manage the club and explained, “I think it’s not a secret that it’s one of the best clubs in the world. As I say, everyone would dream to be here, and I feel so lucky to have this opportunity.”

She also spoke of her 14 years of experience as a coach and the role her brother played in believing in her and supporting her successful career in football.

Biggest achievement

Describing her time in Scotland at Hearts, she explained that the five seasons were amazing and outlined the special feeling of seeing a group of players improve under a coach.

When asked what her biggest achievement in football has been so far, she added, “winning the league last season was huge. The group of players we had was so special. Everyone was united, and that togetherness made it even more meaningful.”

It has been suggested that one of the main reasons Olid was chosen as manager was her ability to work with and improve young players, as she managed to do so well in Edinburgh.

She explained, “when players are growing, you have a big influence on them. It’s so important that we start early in the academy so we can transmit our philosophy and style of play. They can grow with us and become part of the club’s future.”

Olid also described the type of culture that she would like to bring to the club, and she stated, “togetherness. Working hard every day. It’s not about working hard one day and not the next—it has to be every day. High standards are important, and keeping the belief that together we can achieve big things.”

Objectives

When asked about what she wants to achieve at the club, she explained that “everything is possible” and that she has the ambition of achieving “big things” at the Leigh Sports Village.

She also suggested that ahead of pre-season training, she has been impressed with the technical level of her new players and also their commitment to work off the ball.

Olid also explained what she wants to achieve during her first few weeks at the club, and she asserted, “it’s very important to show the players how we want to play, our style of play, and the kind of team we want to be on and off the pitch. It’s also important that we get to know each other and start building that togetherness from the beginning.”
