Evan Ferguson moved from Brighton to Roma on loan in the summer, in a bid to rediscover the form that once made him among the most talked about young players in the Premier League. In pre-season, the young Irishman was deemed so impressive by manager Gian Piero Gasperini that he was ready to sell Artem Dovbyk, who had an impressive first season at the club.
Despite that, since the season began, Ferguson hasn’t met expectations. Although there have been some good all-round games, the goals haven’t come. The first goal did come this weekend, in a 3-1 away win over Cremonese, a win which took Roma clear at the top of the table.
If Ferguson can put together a run of form and manage to find his goalscoring boots again, it will be of massive help to Roma and Gasperini as far as the title race is considered. On his part too, the striker will hardly get an opportunity to show his worth, that is better than this.
