Evander, formerly of Vasco and now Cincinnati’s No 10, shared top spot with Thomas Müller of Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS All-Star accuracy challenge. Both scored 79 points, the highest tally in the event’s 30 editions, during Tuesday’s skills programme.

According to Globo.com, the All-Star Game takes place on Wednesday in Charlotte, featuring 29 MLS players against 24 from Mexico’s Liga MX.

Players also contested crossbar and passing challenges. The passing event was won by American defender Tim Ream of Charlotte.

Two more Brazilians are set to feature on Wednesday, midfielder Guilherme of Houston Dynnamo and defender Nathan of Mexican side Pumas.

Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi, the league’s biggest star, and team-mate Rodrigo de Paul were excused from the All-Star Game, having played for Argentina in the World Cup final on 19 and remaining on holiday. Tuesday’s activities were briefly halted due to the threat of a storm.
