Everton and Marseille remain in talks to sign Rennes’ Lorenz Assignon

Julien Stéphan’s return to Stade Rennais proved bad news for Lorenz Assignon (24). The Frenchman, under Bruno Genesio, was a guaranteed starter for Rennes at the start of last season, however, he was frozen out by Stéphan before a brief but successful loan spell at Burnley.

Burnley’s relegation back to the EFL Championship put paid to their chances of making Assignon’s move permanent. However, whilst the defender returned to parent club Rennes, he wasn’t expected to stay there. He was one of many players touted for a departure, however, with just two days before the closure of the transfer window, that move has not come to pass.

Assignon, despite still being available on the market, has nonetheless regained his position in the Rennes lineup, starting both of their Ligue 1 games this season. However, the possibility of a departure remains. RMC Sport understands that Everton and Olympique de Marseille are still in discussions to sign the right-back. Both clubs are discussing loan deals that would include an option to make the move permanent.
