Everton forward Martin Sherif, 20, has been charged by the Football Association over betting rule breaches, accused of placing 61 bets between November 2024 and February 2026.

The FA said the player, who spent last season on loan at Port Vale in the third division, has until Monday 17 August to respond.

Born in Liberia and a Netherlands youth international, Sherif has returned to Everton and is yet to make a senior appearance for his club. He has scored 35 goals at youth level.

The case could further delay his debut in the English top flight.

The FA has previously taken a hard line on betting violations. Former Brentford striker Ivan Toney received an eight-month suspension in 2023 after 232 breaches were recorded.
