The winds of uncertainty often blow strongly around Goodison Park. Change feels more like a cycle than a phase. Everton keep struggling with problems that have lingered for far too long, and those are inconsistency, thin squad depth, and the constant search for balance.

Despite some progress, cracks still show across key areas of the pitch. Their defensive line, especially on the right side, has raised growing concern. We reported earlier that Everton aim to secure Jordan Pickford’s future with a new contract. This move shows the club’s intent to build stability from the back.

Everton told to pay €20 million for Juanlu Sánchez

Yet, a strong foundation needs more than a dependable goalkeeper. The team needs a reliable right-back, something Everton have missed for a while. Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur reports that the Merseyside club have set their sights on Juanlu Sánchez.

The 22-year-old wide player from Sevilla has stayed on Everton’s radar for months. The Toffees want to strengthen their defence in the next transfer window. However, the road ahead won’t be easy.

Antonio Conte wants Napoli to sign Sánchez as a priority. Real Betis and Villarreal are chasing him, too. Sevilla refuse to sell cheaply and have set a €20 million price tag for their young Spaniard. The club’s financial strain makes that figure difficult to justify. Meanwhile, the agent revealed why Malick Fofana rejected Everton in the summer.

A Calculated Gamble Or A Step Forward For The Toffees?

Everton’s interest in Sánchez looks like a sensible but risky move. Séamus Coleman, the loyal veteran, nears the end of his career. Nathan Patterson is still struggling to prove himself as a consistent starter. Jake O’Brien’s performances at right-back have given temporary relief.

Still, he plays out of position instead of offering a permanent fix. Sánchez brings attacking flair and defensive awareness that could fit well with what David Moyes needs right now. The Spaniard has gained La Liga experience and contributes to both defence and attack, which could inject fresh energy into Everton’s flank. Yet, spending £17 million in their current situation should demand serious thought.

Profit and Sustainability Regulations still restrict the club’s spending. Cheaper options like Kyle Walker-Peters might make more financial sense. Everton may decide to use their funds to fix other positions.

However, if the board truly believe Sánchez can serve as a long-term piece of their puzzle, they might choose to pay the fee. The club must now decide whether to play it safe or move forward boldly. Should Everton sign Juanlu Sánchez or wait for a safer option? The question will definitely split opinion. Every transfer shapes the team and defines the club’s direction.

If the Toffees trust Sánchez to strengthen their defence for years, now is the perfect moment to act boldly, but if they hesitate again, the same doubts will return. What do you think, Everton fans? Would you spend on Sánchez or look for a cheaper alternative?
