Everton: Idrissa Gueye issues his mea culpa

Everton: Idrissa Gueye fully owns up to his wild act
The day after a scene as rare as it was bewildering at Old Trafford, Idrissa Gana Gueye stepped up to speak out and calm the storm. Sent off within the opening minutes against Manchester United after slapping his teammate Michael Keane, the Senegalese Everton midfielder publicly took responsibility for his mistake in a clear, no-nonsense message.
"First of all, I want to apologize to my teammate, Michael Keane. I take full responsibility for my reaction. I also want to apologize to the rest of my teammates, the staff, the fans, and the club. What happened does not reflect who I am or the values I stand for. Emotions can get the better of you, but nothing justifies such behavior. I will make sure this never happens again," he said in an Instagram story.
His statement was highly anticipated, as the incident had sparked a wave of confusion across England. After the match, Everton manager David Moyes himself tried to defuse the situation, explaining that the tension had "gotten the better of the players" and that the dressing room would deal with this lapse in judgment internally.
