Everton made it three consecutive wins in the Barclays Women’s Super League after seeing-off West Ham United 1-0 at Goodison Park this afternoon.

Honoka Hayashi netted the only goal of the game as The Toffees continued their climb up the table.

Everton started brightly on Merseyside and Inma Gabarro directed an effort at the West Ham United goal, but the ball went over the net.

Hayashi then opened the scoring for the hosts in the eighth minute. Hannah Blundell squared a pass to Hayashi and she tapped the ball into the net.

West Ham United responded and Viviane Asseyi went through on goal after escaping Ruby Mace, but she lost the ball from her possession.

At the other end, Gabarro had another chance to shoot, but the ball was caught well by visiting keeper Kinga Szemik.

Both sides looked to add to the scoreline. Riko Ueki tried to capitalise from an Oona Siren pass for West Ham United, but Mace swept up the ball and booted it clear while an Everton opening saw Gabarro juggle the ball brilliantly, but her resulting shot didn’t have the power to beat Szemik.

Martina Fernández then had the ball in the back of the net, but the whistle was blown and the goal was ruled out.

West Ham United desperately pushed for an equaliser but Everton hung on to claim another three points.

This afternoon’s result has moved Everton up to eighth place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table while West Ham United remain in tenth.
