Everton have opted to recall attacker Melissa Lawley from her loan spell at FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division club Burnley ahead of schedule.

The Toffees announced the news via a post on their official club X account this morning.

The 31-year-old former England international was set to spend the whole season with the high-flying third tier side but she will now return to parent club Everton at the campaign’s halfway point.

Lawley made nine appearances for Burnley in all competitions while she scored four goals. She has helped The Clarettes to again mount a strong push for promotion.

It is thought that Everton do not have any immediate plans to loan Lawley out again or sell her. The club have indicated that the player will immediately be available for first team selection.

Lawley joined Everton in summer 2024 after leaving former club Liverpool. The attacker was an important squad player for The Toffees last season, clocking up more than 20 appearances in all competitions.

Everton return to competitive action following the winter break when they travel to The Joie Stadium to face Manchester City tomorrow. The Toffees will be keen to cause an upset against the Barclays Women’s Super League leaders.
