Everton have completed the signing of versatile right-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Lyon on a permanent three-year deal. The 29-year-old returns to English football after a three-season spell in Ligue 1.

Everton sought a right-back after long-serving captain Seamus Coleman ended his 17-year stay. The Athletic reports that the club considered Fulham's Kenny Tete before securing Maitland-Niles.

He becomes their seventh signing of the summer. Maitland-Niles won the FA Cup with Arsenal and the Europa Conference League with Roma.

He joined Lyon in August 2023 and made 119 appearances in all competitions, contributing 22 goals and assists. He started 28 league matches last season, and his ability to play across full-back and midfield strengthens Everton's options.

Barring any registration delays, he could make his competitive debut on Sunday when Everton host Manchester United at Hill Dickinson Stadium in the Premier League. The fixture offers an immediate test and a chance to stake an early claim before the international break.
