Everton have scrapped Harrison Armstrong’s proposed £35m move to Nottingham Forest after supporters warned there would be a riot if he was sold.

He had been due for a Sunday medical after the bid was accepted by Everton owners the Friedkin Group. According to Telegraph, Forest even received written confirmation before TFG withdrew late on Saturday night.

At Bournemouth, travelling Everton fans urged the club not to sell the 19-year-old. Offloading a home-grown player so late in the window would have intensified pressure on the ownership.

Armstrong, an England under-19 midfielder, has been at Everton since the age of five and has started all three matches this season. Forest have tracked him since the start of this year and learned in June that he could be available.

After the 1-1 draw at Bournemouth, David Moyes said supporters must be considered and are not always wrong, though powerful figures sometimes take unpopular decisions for different reasons. He referenced Bryan Gray at Preston North End and Sir Philip Carter from his early Everton days, and stressed he is an Evertonian.

Forest will now assess alternatives, with Crystal Palace defender Daniel Muñoz undergoing a medical ahead of a £20m move. They are also working on outgoings, with Omari Hutchinson set to join AC Milan on loan.
