Everton host Crystal Palace at Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first game of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

David Moyes will be hoping the Toffees’ positive pre-season sets the standard for the upcoming campaign, though the squad needs strengthening in certain positions.

In an interview with Giulia Bould, Everton CEO, Angus Kinnear, stated that" “We won't have a right-back for Palace, but it's important we have the number one right-back we wanted when the window closes.”

There have been plenty of transfer rumours, from Daniel Munoz to Matty Cash, but nothing major is yet to be reported. David Moyes also confirmed his press conference that Everton are “right in there” for a new right-back, revealing that plenty bids have been made.

For Palace, new manager Pierre Sage has come in to replace Oliver Glasner, who has signed a contract at Nottingham Forest. European football will return to Selhurst Park following a UEFA Conference League final victory over Rayo Vallecano in Leipzig, Germany.

David Moyes has confirmed that midfield trio James Garner, Christian Norgaard and Tim Iroegbunam are expected to be on the sidelines, missing this season’s openers.

Garner, who underwent surgery following a groin injury, had already begun rehabilitation at Finch Farm and could be returning to first team training during the first weekend of the season.

Christian Nørgaard personally revealed at the Men in Blazers event at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday that “a small injury” has prevented the Dane from featuring for the Blues, following a £7 million move from Arsenal this summer. Nørgaard stated that he is “getting very close” to a return.

Iroegbunam’s injury has not been fully confirmed by Everton, but following Hull City’s withdrawal of a £20 million proposal for the English midfielder, the Tigers’ manager Sergei Jakirovic stated, “It's difficult because Tim is injured. We agreed everything between Everton and the player, but in the last game he got an abductor (injury). It’s a minimum of six weeks.”

Finding solutions in the middle of the park may be difficult due to the range of injuries in midfield, meaning the likes of Hackney and Röhl may be given the nod.
