Everton are starting to make moves ahead of the 2025/26 season. With David Moyes back and the Premier League always demanding, the Toffees know they need to address certain shortcomings in their squad. One of the areas of greatest concern is at right-back. After the departure of Ashley Young and with Seamus Coleman increasingly limited by age, the Merseyside club needs a fresh and promising solution. In this situation, the name of Georgios Vagiannidis has started to sound strongly at Finch Farm.

Vagiannidis, a serious option to reinforce the position for West Ham

According to the Record, reported by Sport Witness, Everton have set their sights on Georgios Vagiannidis, a 23-year-old right-back who plays for Panathinaikos. The Greek has been gaining prominence at his club and has also attracted the attention of other European clubs such as Sporting Lisbon. Panathinaikos, however, are not willing to release him immediately.

They want him for the all-important Champions League tie against Rangers, so any negotiations with Everton will have to wait until August. Even so, his estimated price tag of between €14.5 and €15 million makes him an attractive option for the Goodison Park outfit, who remain constrained by their financial restrictions.

Transfer analysis: opportunity with measured risk

Georgios Vagiannidis could be a smart move for Everton. He is a 23-year-old, has European experience and possesses pace with good defensive judgment. In a more practical system like the one David Moyes proposes, the Greek could provide balance on that position, adding to the attack without cluttering up the back four. His price is affordable considering the current level of competition and the player’s potential.

The Champions League gives him an extra showcase and, if he performs well against Rangers, his value could rise. Sporting CP are already in the fray, which could trigger a bidding war. For Everton, who need to rejuvenate their defence without wasting money, moving fast will be the key. If they can convince Panathinaikos after their European tie, they could close a signing that would give them immediate quality and future market value, but if they fall asleep, another club will take advantage.
