Everton Women are set for another landmark occasion as they prepare to host Manchester United Women at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday.

It will be the first time that the Blues Women play a match at the new waterfront stadium, having moved into Goodison Park full-time this season.

“We are just going to go in and enjoy that one in a big stadium with a big crowd. We are super-excited for it,” said manager Brian Sorensen in the pre-match press conference.

Sorensen’s side will be hoping that the change of venue brings better fortune as they are yet to win a match since their impressive 4-1 triumph over Liverpool Women at Anfield in the Women’s Super League opener.

Since then, they’ve lost consecutive matches to Tottenham and London City at Goodison Park, lost to Brighton away from home and managed a 1-1 draw with Leicester City on the road.

As a result, they find themselves ninth in the table with four points from five matches.

Their opponents on Sunday, Manchester United, are unbeaten in the league so far. They have won three of their five matches and have shared points on the other two occasions. With 11 points, United are fourth in the league standings, two points away from Chelsea at the top.

They’re also missing goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan, striker Aurora Galli and defender Rion Ishikawa, who are also out with knee problems at the moment.

Everton will also be without Katja Snoejis on Sunday after she picked up a hamstring injury in training. However, on the brighter side, Kelly Gago is expected to return following a concussion-related absence recently.

The bottom line is that WSL rules state that at least one match per season must be played at the club’s nominated main stadium, so even though Everton have handed over their previous home for the past 133 years to their women’s team, that means Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The rule is in place to ensure that teams who traditionally play at lower league or non-league grounds get the spectacle of a major stadium at least once a year, although Goodison Park effectively gives Everton Women that opportunity every home match, something that only the Blues and Arsenal, whose women’s team regularly play in front of large crowds at the Emirates Stadium, can boast.

The Regent Road wall and turnstiles will open at 10am.

The women's game is definitely getting better and better as the pool of talent inevitably gets larger as it is accepted as more a mainstream sport. One of the things that I like about the women's game is the lack of histrionics, diving and play acting etc - coming from a boxing and kickboxing background - as well as football - I like this. 'Men' please take note - some of the antics of male footballers are quite frankly - embarrassing. I loved the fact that - up until recent times - Everton were not divers - that said, the current team seems not to be, but there were Everton players in recent times that made me cringe.

So yeah - all for supporting the women's game - just keep it honest!

For the above reasons given - I have stopped watching any men's game other than one involving Everton - awful watching grown athletic men act like they do and thinking it is okay.

Oh, and what I failed to add - is there is no little amount of skill in the women's game - and it is highly entertaining too!

The one issue, in my opinion, is the goalkeepers - now being an ex-keeper, and short for a keeper too - 5 foot 10, that is the one area that the women's game may have a problem with. The balance between height, athletism and strength is not an easy one to bridge. That said, wasn't Barthes 5 foot 10ish!?

Attendances are no reflection of quality - look at the attendances of Everton when relegation fodder and when they were champions!

No way there were 18,000 in there.

And I'm sorry but what little I saw wasn't just poor... it was shocking.

Barry 4. John "Teddy" Davison, an English footballer who played from 1908 to 1926, is believed to be the smallest ever British goalkeeper. Standing at 5 ft 7 in (1.70 m), he famously made up for his short stature with lightning-fast reflexes and exceptional anticipation.

Teddy Davison's career

Davison was a legendary figure in Sheffield football, with a long and successful association with the city's clubs. He played for The Wednesday (now Sheffield Wednesday) for 18 years, making over 400 appearances in all competitions.

In 1922, he earned a cap for the England national team, making him the smallest goalkeeper to ever represent his country.

I'm also interested in the commercial side of football so I'd thought I'd try and check the revenue of the women's game v the men.

On the positive side, our attendances are surprisingly good, 3rd best at just under 10,000, albeit well behind Arsenal on over 30,000. However, ticket prices are also much lower, 15-20% of the men's game, so my very rough estimate would be revenue is c 3% of the men's team on matchday income. That carries through into salaries. It appears Russo is the highest paid player on £300k a year, but that compares to Haaland on some £25M a year, not much more than 1% of the salary peak of the Premier League.

Of note was Chelsea selling their women's team recently for a quite extraordinary £200M. That would appear to be a revenue multiplier of at least 10 and maybe 20, so even allowing for growth potential, is incredibly aggressive (or let's face it, just a nice bit of PSR manipulation!).

The other big revenue raiser, TV rights, are similar, around £12.5M a season for the women versus £1.3B for the men, so barely 1%. I'm assuming other revenue streams show similar proportions, though that might be optimistic especially on international TV rights.

One might argue there is more growth potential in women's football and that is probably true, but as you can see above, there is a lot of catching up to do. I may be wrong but I suspect our women's team effectively runs at a loss and probably not a small one in relative terms. But then so does the men's team!

"Sorensen's side will be hoping that the change of venue brings better fortune as they are yet to win a match since their impressive 4-1 triumph over Liverpool Women at Anfield in the Women's Super League opener."

Or, to frame it another way, they've yet to win a match since some on here started clamouring for more news and articles about the team.

I feared this would happen, it is so typically Everton. Can we please ignore them from now on and let them charge up the table in peace.
