Evertton Araújo has reshaped his Flamengo trajectory, the 24-year-old midfielder now an important figure and a reference for academy players stepping up.

During the Algarve camp, Leonardo Jardim handed chances to youngsters, and Evertton has shown a pathway into the senior group. “People talk, but they have no idea what the European market is. Today, a player over 25 going to Europe is very difficult. The big transfers nowadays involve players already in Europe or very young ones, 18, 19,” said José Boto, speaking to Coluna Do Fla.

While the prospects look on, forward Wallace Yan has described Evertton as a leader for the younger players during the stay in the Algarve.

“Above 24, it is rare that very high fees are paid. In that context, Evertton Araújo is one of Flamengo’s ‘sellable’ players when we are talking about those values,” Boto added.

Before this rise, Evertton was questioned early in his senior steps and criticised by some supporters. Over time he earned opportunities and, with Erick Pulgar injured, established himself alongside Jorginho in midfield.

He featured in the first two friendlies in Portugal, facing River Plate (ARG) and Lausanne Sports (SUI). He is likely to start against Benfica (POR) on Saturday 11 at Estádio Algarve.

Flamengo are already braced for possible European approaches for the midfielder. The Torneio Algarve fixture kicks off at 15:30 Brasília time.
