Evolution not revolution – Eddie Howe mantra

Eddie Howe watched on as his Newcastle United team played out a goalless draw with Bournemouth.

That makes it three Premier League away games this season without a goal scored, by either team.

A massive plus to see such defensive quality and discipline throughout the team, even with seven outfield changes today.

However, when it comes to the other end of the pitch, the Eddie Howe mantra is evolution not revolution.

As Newcastle United look to fully transition from the last three years of Alexander Isak, to the new kid on the block Nick Woltemade, as well as Yoane Wissa when he is available.

The new striker(s) and the rest of the Newcastle United squad needing to learn how to combine best, when it comes to attacking threat.

Eddie Howe reflecting after Bournemouth 0 Newcastle 0:

“It’s three goalless draws away from home for us.

“Which is really uncommon with our attacking style.

“I think just naturally we are going to be a different team attacking-wise this year without Alex [Isak].

“I thought Nick [Woltemade] played really well today, very effective with his footwork and his link up play.

“But we just need to know and get used to him and his style more, get more runners off him, because he is very good in that respect.

“I am hopeful we’re evolving to a different team.

“Hopefully a better team.

“But it may take a bit of time.

“We pride ourselves on scoring goals and being an attacking team.

“That is what we want to continue to produce.

“But we are evolving as a team.

“We are not going to be the same team as last year.

“We have to find different ways to score and attack.

“That will be a constant thing we are looking at, but I think we have the players to do it, so I have no concerns there.

“We came here to win, I have to make that clear…and the substitutions we made were evidence of that.

“We had to protect certain players who didn’t play today.

“That is the beauty of the squad.

“We showed the strength of our squad.

“It was a good performance, without being a match winning one, we used a lot of different players, which is a good sign.”
