Luton Town manager Jack Wilshere reportedly failed with an ambitious summer move to sign Max Dowman on loan from former club Arsenal.

Wilshere is understood to have made ‘multiple’ approaches to Arsenal in the summer to ask about taking Dowman on loan in League One for the campaign.

The 16-year-old has had a record-breaking emergence at Arsenal, becoming the Premier League’s youngest goalscorer and title winner in 2025/26.

Wilshere made an enquiry about his availability in the summer, having worked with Dowman during his time in charge of Arsenal’s u-18 side.

He’s understood to have endorsed a loan move for the winger, having benefitted from a loan spell at Bolton during his own emergence from the Arsenal academy.

talkSPORT claim multiple approaches were made, with Arsenal rejecting the proposals, as Mikel Arteta looks to keep Dowman around the senior squad. The teenager has not featured in the Premier League this season but scored twice in the 4-2 win at Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup this week.

Luton are 12th in League One after winning two of their opening six games.
