Ex-Corinthians Uruguayan recalls fans at training ground after cup loss

The former Uruguayan forward Acosta, who played for Corinthians between January and August 2008, participated in the program Resenha ESPN and recalled an invasion by the club's organized supporters at the training center after a 3-1 defeat against Goiás in the first leg of the third phase of the Copa do Brasil that year.

He also commented on a brief conversation with Andrés Sanchez, the president of Corinthians at the time: “I only felt (pressure) once. I caught the good phase, right. I was a champion and everything. But I felt (pressure) when we lost to Goiás in the Copa do Brasil. We were in Serie B, with about 15 points ahead. Then we went to the knockout stage of the Copa do Brasil, and we hadn't felt pressure yet.”

“Then the guys (organized supporters) went there (to the training center), Andrés Sánchez took me and Herrera, the foreigners, and said: ‘You just listen, don't respond’“. The former player also detailed the words of some supporters who were present at the location: “‘This is Corinthians, you'll get mumps, whatever that means’… Calm down, calm down… ‘Calm down the f…’”, he continued.

Later, he also mentioned that the car of Fábio Ferreira, a former Corinthians defender, was almost overturned by the Corinthians supporters: “We were entering Parque São Jorge, I acted crazy, went this way, and the guys were waiting for the car. They shook Fabio's car. I said: ‘See? I told you’. But it was only that time as well. Then, we won 4-0 here and advanced past Goiás,” he concluded.

In 38 games wearing the Corinthians jersey, with 23 wins, nine draws, and seven losses – almost 69% success rate, with one title won: The 2008 Serie B. From 2009, he was loaned to Náutico and Cerrito, in Uruguay, before leaving the club permanently for Brasiliense.
