Former Flamengo defender Alejandro Donatti has resumed his career at 39 after stepping away with depression and panic attacks. According to Coluna Do Fla, the Argentine has returned with Boca Unidos, where he began his career.
He is competing in Torneo Federal A, the third tier in Argentina. Donatti made his second debut at the start of the month in a 3-0 win over Atlético Escobar, coming on late in the first round.
Before this comeback, his last match was in July 2023 for Sarmiento, a 0-0 draw with Banfield. He had cited advanced depression with panic attacks and the need for daily medication, noting that anxiety over outside judgement deepened after his San Lorenzo spell.
Signed by Flamengo in 2016, Donatti played 11 times, including alongside Vini Jr and Diego Ribas. In 2017 he moved to Tijuana in Mexico. His peak came at Racing, where he won two Argentine league titles.
He has also represented Tigre, Rosario Central, San Lorenzo, Libertad de Sunchales, Tiro Federal and 9 de Julio de Rafaela. After reappearing for Boca Unidos he spoke of great joy, wanting a familiar environment, to help team-mates and enjoy each moment.
