Flamengo and Jardim fined by Conmebol for delayed restart in Quito | OneFootball

Flamengo and head coach Leonardo Jardim have been fined by Conmebol for a delay to the restart of the match against Independiente del Valle in Quito on 10 September. According to Globo.com, the notification was issued on Wednesday and can be appealed.

Flamengo beat Independiente del Valle 2-0, then drew 1-1 at the Maracanã to reach the Libertadores semi-finals.

The club were fined 60,000 dollars, or R$ 304,000, and Jardim 40,000 dollars, or R$ 206,600. The sums will be deducted from broadcast and sponsorship money owed to Flamengo.

The club also received a warning for breaching articles 7.3.4.1 and 7.3.4.5, which cover flash interviews for rights holders and passage through the mixed zone. Owing to the long distance and stairs between the dressing rooms and the interview area, the club opted for players to pass through only after the match. Conmebol rules require all players to go through the mixed zone even if they do not speak.

Their next opponents are Estudiantes of Argentina.
