Saudi Arabia have taken the footballing world by storm with their activity in the transfer market, and the way in which they have showcased their ambition. Sergej Milinković-Savić is perhaps the most impressive player to join the league so far. A top player, playing for one of the biggest clubs in Italy, and regularly linked with moves to England and Spain, Milinković-Savić is a huge scalp for Al-Hilal.
Former Lazio player, Miroslav Klose spoke to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) recently and he had some harsh words for the Serbian midfielder. Klose, who scored 63 goals for the Italian club, said:
“I think that if you are at the end of your career, such as Benzema or Cristiano Ronaldo, then it can be a choice. As for Milinkovic, however, I see it a little differently. For me he is not the right age for this step. I would have rather seen him in England or Spain. But it’s his decision and we have to accept it.”Klose did not hide his disapproval of the move, and many football fans are of the same mindset. The reality however is that players are being offered life-changing sums of money to make the move to Saudi, and so far they are struggling to say no.
The Serbian isn’t the first Serie A player to go to Saudi Arabia, with Marcelo Brozovic already at Al-Nassr, with the likes of Piotr Zielinski and Leonardo Spinazzola being linked with moves to the Middle East as well.
