Former Leeds United goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson has retired aged 25, departing Aalesund after starting all of their matches in the first part of the Eliteserien season.

The club said in a statement that he had decided to hang up his gloves and that the decision had been respected. Both parties agreed to end his contract, which had been due to run until 31 December 2028.

Klaesson joined Leeds from Vålerenga in July 2021 for £1.5m and made three first-team appearances across three years. He was capped by Norway up to Under 21 level, and came on for the injured Illan Meslier in a 3-2 Premier League win at Wolves.

He started once in the Championship in 2023/24 when Meslier was suspended and Karl Darlow was injured, and he also played in the FA Cup at Peterborough United.

After a mutual termination in summer 2024 he signed for Raków Częstochowa, but concerns over fitness saw that deal cancelled within two months without an appearance.

He joined AGF in September 2024 and, after a single senior outing, moved to Viking in January 2025. He made 14 league starts as Viking won the 2025 Eliteserien before switching to Aalesund on a three-year contract in January of this year.
