Former Arsenal goalkeeper Graham Stack hopes a successful charity boxing gala in London next month will be followed up by another big event in Liverpool or Manchester.

Stack is hosting A Night To Remember at the Grosvenor Hotel in Mayfair on October 18 as ex-Premier League players take to the ring.

Five fights will be taking place across the night, with former world champions Darren Barker, Enzo Maccarinelli, and James DeGale helping to train the former footballers.

The main event of the night will see former Tottenham winger David Bentley take on ex-Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris.

The other four bouts will include Curtis Davies facing Paddy Kenny, Leroy Lita versus David Noble, Lee Trundle taking on Anthony Gardner and Greg Halford squaring off with Marvin Elliott.

The aim of it all is to raise £500,000 for the charities Helping Hands, The Willow Foundation and Sport In Mind.

Stack hopes the event is a hit and has ambitious plans to replicate it up north next summer, with former players from clubs including Manchester United and Liverpool, before returning for a final show in London.

“We have got one event at the Grosvenor Hotel on the 18th,” said Stack. “We will then go to Liverpool or Manchester in June.

“We will have 10 northern-based fighters there, who have probably played for more northern-based clubs.

“It will be exactly the same format, exactly the same kind of structure, exactly the same kind of entertainment with a Q&A in the ring. This time we have got Ray Parlour, Paul Merson and Crouchy (Peter Crouch). Then we have got live performers and DJs after the event.

“We would go up to Liverpool or Manchester, doing something very similar. We would probably work with two local charities based up there.

“We will try get a lot of the northern-based trainers and champions in - the Smith brothers, Tony Bellew, people like that.

“Then it will be the best five northern fighters against the best five southern fighters from this event.

“We will have almost like a winner-takes-all back at the Grosvenor next October.”
