Ex-Sampdoria goalkeeper says Maignan is ‘among the best’ in Serie A | OneFootball

Former Sampdoria goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano has placed AC Milan’s Mike Maignan ‘among the best’ goalkeepers in Serie A right now.

Speaking to TV Play (via Pianeta Milan), Viviano spoke highly of Maignan although the majority of Milan fans may think that he has been assessed too harshly.

It would not be unusual to claim that Maignan is actually the best goalkeeper in Serie A right now, especially given he is the No.1 goalkeeper for the French national team.

According to Viviano, though, the former Lille goalkeeper is just up there with the likes of Wojciech Szczesny at Juventus who could actually be leaving the club.

It is his glowing assessment of Szczesny that makes him surprised that more clubs are not trying to sign the Pole from the Bianconeri this summer.

“Szczesny is stronger than Michele Di Gregorio and Mattia Perin. But Juventus is making it a question of salary and will sell him. I am surprised that there are not 5-6 teams in Europe that are looking for him. He and Maignan are among the best in Serie A,” Viviano said.

Milan are currently working hard to try and ensure that Maignan stays at the club for as long as possible. He will be out of contract in 2026 and there is a lot of interest in him from various big clubs around Europe.

The club needs to come to an agreement with him on salary but that is not easy given he wants to be one of the best-paid players at the club.
