Former West Ham United and Southampton striker Danny Ings is on the radar of Scottish side Hibernian following his departure from Sheffield United.

Former West Ham United and Southampton striker Danny Ings is reportedly attracting interest from Scottish Premiership side Hibernian as he continues his search for his next club.

The English and Scottish transfer windows may now be closed, but as Ings is a free agent, he is able to sign for a new club at any time, and according to journalist Jack Harris, he has emerged on the radar of Hibernian.

Ings has spent much of his career in the Premier League, with his most notable spells coming with the likes of Liverpool, Southampton, Aston Villa and West Ham.

While injuries prevented Ings from fulfilling his true potential, he proved himself to be a prolific goalscorer in the top flight when fit, scoring a total of 46 goals in 100 appearances during his loan and permanent stints at Southampton.

Ings was last seen in the Premier League with West Ham, where he scored just five goals in 69 appearances, and he dropped into the Championship with Sheffield United last season after being released by the Hammers in May 2025.

The 34-year-old signed a one-year contract at Bramall Lane, with the Blades having the option to extend, but he failed to make an impact as Chris Wilder's side recorded a disappointing 13th-placed finish, and he departed earlier this summer.

After leaving the South Yorkshire outfit, it was reported in July that Ings was on the verge of putting pen to paper on a one-year contract with newly-relegated League One side Leicester City, but a move to the King Power Stadium did not materialise.

It has been a decent start to the season for Hibernian, with David Gray's side picking up six points from their opening four Scottish Premiership games, including a famous 2-1 victory over Rangers at Ibrox last month.

However, Hibs suffered heartbreak as they missed out on a place in the Conference League following a late 3-2 defeat to Belgian side Gent last week, and they were beaten 3-1 by Edinburgh rivals Hearts at Easter Road on Thursday night.

Hibernian brought in eight new signings this summer, with the likes of Jason Kerr, Adam Mayor, Callum Wright, Azeem Abdulai and Nathan Lowe arriving from EFL clubs, but it seems Gray is keen to bolster his squad further with the addition of Ings.

With Owen Elding currently out injured and Thibault Klidje and Ante Suto falling out of favour, Gray is believed to be targeting attacking reinforcements, but Hibs may face strong competition for Ings, who is also reportedly considering EFL and overseas options.

Hibernian are no stranger to bringing in a high-profile free agent striker, having signed former Crystal Palace and Newcastle United man Dwight Gayle in September 2024, with the 36-year-old going on to score six goals in 29 appearances for the club, including a memorable winner at Tynecastle in the derby against Hearts.

Having scored 72 goals in 240 Premier League games, there is no doubt that, at his peak, Ings was a prolific goalscorer at the highest level, while he also netted once in three appearances for England on the international stage.

With that in mind, Ings would certainly bring a strong goalscoring pedigree to Easter Road, but he has scored a total of just seven goals at his previous two clubs, West Ham and Sheffield United, suggesting that his best days are now behind him.

Ings may be able to rediscover his form if given a regular run of games in the Scottish Premiership, but he would be a risky signing for Hibernian, particularly given the sizeable wages he is likely to command.
