EXC: The real reason Rangers sacked CEO Patrick Stewart

Having told you why Rangers sacked Kevin Thelwell earlier, (wasn’t overly complicated really) attention turns to former CEO Patrick Stewart.

Fans really did not like the ex-Utd interim CEO some thinking he was in fact AI. We can confirm he was human, but only just.

But before this gets into character assassination (gets?) we explain why he was fired.

Sources

Ibrox Noise Sources explained Patrick Stewart’s dismissal has been a long time coming.

And the reason again was simple:

Russell Martin.

Martin was Stewart’s appointment, both of them were in the picture long before Kevin Thelwell arrived. Stewart made sure to put himself in all publicity around Martin and it was made abundantly clear he was his man.

Gardening leave

When Andrew Cavenagh finally realised that yes, Martin was an appalling choice, Stewart was on effective gardening leave.

There’s little coincidence Stewart faded into the background once Martin was given his marching orders.

He made a symbolic statement after the appointment of Danny Rohl but gave no proper interviews and was a dead man walking at that point.

Fans most definitely noticed Stewart’s especially grim expression during Rohl’s unveiling, where he looked like he was on his way out. Both the photos and his performance at the presser told their own story.

Time

After that Stewart’s time was up.

He inflicted Russell Martin on Rangers and he paid the price with his job.

Stewart is an absolute fail at this level in football. He was a chronically poor interim at Manchester United, and he was even worse at Rangers.

He cost Rangers £500,000 in wages, a figure confirmed by the recent accounts, and will also cost severance, just like Kevin Thelwell will.

While there’s debate over whether Thelwell was appointed by the 49ers or not (he was approved by them) there’s none about Stewart.

Ex-Rangers board

He was appointed by the ex-regime at Ibrox, and now departs like them.

Rangers have been horribly run too long, and maybe just maybe there’s a steel behind Cavenagh that might slowly turn this abject mess around.

Eventually.
