With the festive season now just around the corner in the EFL, clubs across the divisions are beginning to get a feel for the type of season in store for them.

As such, eyes are also now beginning to look towards the January transfer window, as managers up and down the land have now had the time to understand which areas of their respective teams are lacking, and could do with bolstering in the new year.

AFC Wimbledon, Grimsby Town, Bromley and Burton Albion are all monitoring the situation of Gateshead goalkeeper Tiernan Brooks, Football League World has exclusively been informed.

The 23-year-old keeper has been in good form for the Heed this season, playing 15 of their 19 National League games, despite Alun Armstrong's side currently hovering just above the relegation places.

As such, his performances haven't gone unnoticed by EFL clubs, with numerous League Two and League One sides all tracking his progress ahead of the January transfer window.

A Republic of Ireland youth international, Sheffield-born Brooks began his footballing adventure in the academy of Sheffield Wednesday, before moving to Notts County and turning professional with the Magpies in 2019.

Numerous loan spells with the likes of Hednesford Town, Boston United, Cork City and Rochdale would follow for him over the next few years, before eventually signing for Gateshead in last year's summer transfer window.

Since then, Brooks has made over 40 appearances for the Tynesiders, and represented the Republic of Ireland five times at Under-21 level.

Brooks looks ready to test himself at EFL level - Gateshead contract situation may work against the Heed

Having signed a two-year contract with Gateshead in July of last year, Brooks is out of contract at the end of this season.

Therefore, with the young goalkeeper now firmly on the radar of EFL clubs, the Heed may well have seen their chance to secure him at the International Stadium for the long-term pass them by.

With the club looking primed for a long season in National League, Brooks may well feel as though his current team are some way off contending for League Two promotion, and may wish to cash in on the interest being shown in him to give himself the best possible chance of making a career for himself at EFL level.

Voted as Gateshead's October Player of the Month despite the fact his side didn't win a single league game in October shows just how well he's been playing, and perhaps highlights his readiness to take the next step in his career.

None of AFC Wimbledon, Grimsby Town, Bromley or Burton Albion have a hugely pressing need for a goalkeeper, or at least not a starting one, but Brooks could well come in to any of those sides and instantly start pushing for the backup role with a long-term roadmap for the number one shirt in mind.

Or, he may well surprise a few people and make an instant claim for the starting shirt, but either way, his time at Gateshead looks to be drawing to an inevitable close given his contract situation, and the clear interest levels from numerous EFL clubs.
