The summer transfer window is officially open for business and FC Barcelona are set to be a hubbub of activity over the next couple of months.

Given the club’s financial situation, at least one major sale is expected, with reports suggesting that it could be one of Ronald Araujo or Raphinha, both of whom are attracting significant interest.

However, there is another player who is courted by several teams and would fetch a big transfer fee while also freeing up salary space – Frenkie de Jong.

A busy summer ahead for De Jong

Indeed, journalist Moises Llorens, in an exclusive chat with Barça Universal, has revealed that Frenkie de Jong could be in for a ‘busy summer’ as there are many clubs interested in signing him up.

De Jong’s current contract with Barça stands to expire in 2026 and despite the club tabling a renewal offer, he is yet to sign or even respond to the proposal.

The journalist states that the Netherlands international is happy at Barcelona and wants to stay at the club.

However, club president Joan Laporta and director Deco know that the former AFC Ajax ace is one of the most saleable assets in the squad. On top of that, his salary is high – which is seen as a major problem by the management.

Manchester United have shown serious interest in the past while Bayern Munich and PSG are also known admirers of the midfield heavyweight.

Flick wants to keep De Jong

Moises Llorens further revealed to Barça Universal that new manager Hansi Flick wants to keep hold of De Jong at the club.

However, as an employee of the club, the German tactician would accept it if Laporta & co. decided that the midfielder had to be sold.

De Jong, for his part, is currently on vacation after having had to withdraw from the UEFA Euro 2024 due to injury. The Dutchman is waiting for further developments with regard to his future.
