Lee Hendrie has told FLW his verdict on Gareth Bale's potential takeover at Cardiff City
Lee Hendrie believes that the Gareth Bale backed bid to buy Cardiff City is a very exciting development for the club.
It was reported by The Athletic last week that the former winger is leading a consortium that has made an approach to purchase the Bluebirds from Vincent Tan.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, the ex-Real Madrid star made it clear that his ambitions for Cardiff are to bring it back to the Premier League.
The Welsh outfit are currently preparing for life in League One following their relegation from the Championship last season.
Hendrie has claimed that this is an exciting moment for Cardiff, making clear his wish to see the 35-year-old’s takeover bid succeed.
He believes the Bluebirds have become stagnant in recent years, and that this new journey they could have under Bale could make for a good fit.
“There’s been lots of links with Gareth Bale obviously, and he’s come out publicly and revealed that he badly wants to help buy Cardiff City to take the Welsh side back to the Premier League,” Hendrie exclusively told Football League World.
“I think it’s exciting, I really do.
“I think Gareth Bale, amongst the back area of the football club, and obviously stating his passion to take the club to the Premier League, I just think it’s something that should be looked at with a lot of purpose.
“He’s obviously looked at this in depth and feels there’s bags of potential, which there is at a football club of that status.
“It has been stood still for quite some time, and I think Gareth Bale quite openly says he wants to take the club to a level where it should be, which is quality to hear.
“I’m sure that Cardiff fans will be absolutely relishing the fact of that and I think this would be a new journey for Bale and Cardiff, so I think it would be a great fit.”
Brian Barry-Murphy has been appointed the latest Cardiff manager, with the Irishman being tasked with guiding the club back to the Championship at the first attempt.
Bale has no experience in football ownership, and has not exactly shown he has the business acumen to run something of this size.
However, fans will obviously feel very excited by the prospect of someone with his reputation within the game as a player becoming involved in an ownership capacity.
It does have the potential to go very sour if things don’t work out, which is a risk Bale will have to accept if he does come on board.
But, if he can get the right people to join with him, then it also could be a very exciting time for Cardiff supporters, if a deal did go through.
