Whether it's modern, state-of-the-art venues or grounds that have stood in place and hosted the trials and tribulations of a football club for generations, no two EFL amphitheatres are the same.

Fully cornered, partially cornered or cornerless, fully seated or stands that are fully terraced, stadiums that are out in the open or sandwiched in amongst housing estates: there's an away day experience for every travelling supporter.

"Incredible" - Don Goodman names top three favourite EFL stadiums to work at

All of them provide a unique experience for fans and pundits alike, but which few standout from the rest for Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman?

Speaking exclusively with Football League World, we asked the former West Brom and Sunderland star, among others: 'Name the three EFL stadiums you most love working at for Sky Sports.'

Goodman said: "I think in answer to this question, more than focusing on gantry position or what the gantry is like, I would focus on atmospheres and nights that I've witnessed at stadiums.

"Obviously we've lost some big ones over the last few years in the likes of Leeds United and Sunderland etc. But, one of my favourite grounds to commentate on when it's rocking is St Andrew's.

"I think their song (Birmingham City) Keep Right On, for me, it's one of my favourite songs in football. I couldn't separate, for obvious reasons, the two Sheffield (Wednesday and United) clubs, having witnessed huge nights at both Bramall Lane and Hillsborough.

"I mean, who can forget that night that Sheffield Wednesday came back from 4-0 down in the play-off semi-final second leg vs Peterborough United? The atmosphere was incredible.

"I'm going to throw a curveball one in: Luton Town (Kenilworth Road). I think that season they got promoted to the Premier League; the gantry being so close to the pitch, the crowd being so close to the pitch.

"When it was rocking, it was excellent. So, I'm going to go with those clubs for now."

Luton Town, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City: It's hard to argue with Goodman's picks

Goodman's first pick, Birmingham City's St Andrew's stadium, is undoubtedly one of the most hostile and electric venues in the EFL.

Although, not for much longer though, as the club are planning on moving into a new 62,000-seater stadium for the 2030/31 season, so time is running out to experience a matchday here if you haven't already.

Blues fans are some of the most passionate and loyal supporters you'll find, and there aren't many more impressive and intimidating sites than a capacity crowd at St Andrew's.

Goodman is then unable to split Sheffield's two iconic footballing amphitheatres apart, and that's understandable given how historic and excellent the atmospheres at both Bramall Lane and Hillsborough can be.

However, perhaps not at this moment in time for either club, as United continue to grapple with a dismal start to their 2025/26 season, whilst the well documented problems at Wednesday are seeing many Owls fans boycotting games, and those that do turn up are creating a hostile atmosphere towards owner Dejphon Chansiri, rather than for the opposition side.

But, in brighter days of years gone by, both grounds have consistently generated some of the best atmospheres anywhere in the EFL.

Then comes his wildcard selection, Luton Town's Kenilworth Road.

The Hatters' 120-year-old stadium is truly one of the most unique and atmospheric stadiums in English football, as Hatters fans do make a real racket, aided by the fact that the fans, as Goodman says, are right on top of the action there.
