Don Goodman has spoken to FLW about Wrexham’s interest in Sheffield United forward Kieffer Moore.
Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman believes Sheffield United will be tempted to cash in on forward Kieffer Moore as Wrexham eye a move for the Welshman this summer.
Expectations will be high for the Blades to bounce back to the top-flight at the second attempt after play-off heartache to Sunderland, with plenty of teams showing in the past that it is possible after an original setback.
After failing to get back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, some players are set to move on from the Blades squad and pursue moves elsewhere.
One of those could be forward Kieffer Moore, who has been linked with a move away back to Wales with Championship rivals Wrexham.
Wrexham are reportedly prepared to pay £4 million to secure the services of the forward, as per Alan Nixon, as well as increasing his £30,000 weekly wage that he earns at Bramall Lane to make him one of the Championship's top earners.
With this in mind, Don Goodman has commented on what Sheffield United’s approach should be if they receive a bid for the 32-year-old.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman believes Sheffield United may be tempted to cash in and make a profit on forward Kieffer Moore given his recent struggles to consistently find the back of the net.
Goodman said: “A £4 million fee for Kieffer Moore would represent a huge profit for Sheffield United on a player that's going to be 33 in August when the season kicks off, so I think they would probably be tempted if the £4 million offer ever did arrive on the table.
“When I look at Kieffer’s record, surprisingly, actually, it's quite some seasons since he managed to get ten goals in a campaign, so he hasn't really been prolific for four, five seasons, but there's no doubt about it that he’s an absolute handful of a centre-forward who could make Championship defenders lives a misery.
“I understand the attraction from a Wrexham perspective, the way Phil Parkinson plays, he likes to get the ball wide, get crosses in. Kieffer Moore would be ideal for that, but £4 million seems a bit on the high side from my perspective.”
When looking at the potential of a Kieffer Moore exit to Wrexham, Sheffield United would definitely be getting the better end of that deal.
At the age of 32, soon to be 33, Moore has shown signs that he’s slowing down, and after a poor return of five goals last season paired with multiple injury issues, he doesn’t seem to be the man that can reliably score enough goals to put the Blades into promotion contention once again.
It would be a healthy profit to make on the original fee of £1.5 million they paid Bournemouth for Moore’s services, which could give them some leeway during the summer transfer window, as the club have been restricted to using free transfers and loan deals.
At this stage of his career, Moore isn’t viewed as a player for the long-term at Bramall Lane, and the club should be eager to get this deal over the line to help provide a much-needed boost to the coffers.
