The League One side are still on the hunt for Michael Duff's permanent successor at the John Smith's Stadium following his March sacking, but two-and-a-half months later, the search is still ongoing.

Interim boss Jonathan Worthington had a torrid end to the 2024-25 season, and the pressure is on owner Kevin Nagle to make the right appointment - it's unlikely however to be Selles.

It was reported this week by journalist Alan Nixon that Huddersfield were in talks with Selles, just a week after he was sacked as head coach of Hull City of the Championship.

Selles took the Tigers over when they were bottom of the table in December 2024, and on the final day of the season he secured their safety in the second tier, yet City owner Acun Ilicali still decided to pull the trigger and axe the 42-year-old.

And despite discussions reportedly taking place between Selles and Huddersfield, FLW has been told that the chances of him becoming Town's next manager is "unlikely", despite the club's strong interest in his services.

Kevin Nagle's hunt for new Huddersfield Town manager is set to continue

American businessman Nagle is looking for a fourth new permanent manager of the club since he bought the Terriers in the summer of 2023, with Darren Moore, Andre Breitenreiter and the aforementioned Duff being appointed under his stint at the club already, but unless something changes drastically, that person won't be Selles.

He has had an unsuccessful time so far trying to bring in not only a new manager but also a fresh sporting director following the exit of Mark Cartwright, and despite the fact pre-season is still a month away for most clubs, transfer business is already being conducted across the EFL.
