Lee Hendrie has given his reaction to Huddersfield Town completing the signing of former Millwall defender Murray Wallace.
Pundit Lee Hendrie believes Huddersfield Town supporters should be excited about the upcoming season after former Millwall defender Murray Wallace became their latest summer signing.
Huddersfield made the surprise decision to part company with Michael Duff in March, despite sitting just outside the play-off places at the time, and they endured a nightmare end to the season under caretaker Jon Worthington, losing all of their final six games on the way to an underwhelming 10th-placed finish.
After a lengthy search for a permanent replacement for Duff, the Terriers appointed Lee Grant as their new boss last month, with the 42-year-old leaving his role as a coach at Ipswich Town to take up his first managerial post at the John Smith's Stadium.
Grant stated that he was keen to get much of Town's transfer business done early ahead of the start of pre-season, and that has certainly been the case, with ex-Millwall defender Murray Wallace becoming the club's sixth summer signing when he completed his move on Wednesday.
After scoring 13 goals and providing six assists in 226 games for the club, Wallace was released by the Lions at the end of his contract this summer, and he has now made a return to Huddersfield, where he previously spent four years between 2012 and 2016 after making the switch from Scottish side Falkirk.
Blackpool and Bradford City were both said to have been keen on Wallace, but the Terriers have beaten their League One rivals to his signature, and the 32-year-old said that it was an "easy decision" to make to re-join the club after hearing of their interest in him.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Hendrie admitted that Huddersfield needed quality reinforcements after their disappointing campaign last season, and he backed Wallace to be a success in his second spell at the John Smith's Stadium.
"Huddersfield Town signed Murray Wallace this week, making their sixth signing of the summer already," Hendrie said.
"I think he is a good signing for them, I really do.
"I think they needed to invest and bring players in who are the right fit, because last season was a disappointment.
"I thought they might have bounced back, but they really needed to bring quality players in this summer, and Murray Wallace is certainly one of those quality players that they can be excited to see next season."
There is no doubt that it has been an eye-catching start to the summer for Huddersfield, with many tipping them as one of the promotion favourites in League One next season after their strong early transfer activity.
The Terriers conceded a total of 55 goals in the league last season, which is far too many for a team with promotion ambitions, so it is no surprise that Grant has made strengthening the defence his first priority, and Low, Roughan, Feeney and Wallace should help to make his side much more solid at the back.
With Town's new-look defensive unit now almost complete, Grant will soon be able to turn his attention to bringing in attacking reinforcements, and reports that the club are preparing to submit a £2.5 million bid for Leyton Orient midfielder Ethan Galbraith suggest that further high-profile signings could be on the way.
