Kieran McKenna's side have been impressed by Kian Berry's form in Slough Town's Under-21s

Ipswich Town have taken Slough Town forward, Kian Berry, on trial, with the youngster also impressing a cluster of other sides within the EFL, Football League World can exclusively reveal.

The 18-year-old has been a standout figure in the Berkshire side's recent run in the FA Youth Cup, in which the Rebels' Under-18s age group progressed as far as the first round proper, before they were defeated by Cambridge United at the Cledara Abbey Stadium on October 28th.

In first-team matters, Slough currently play in the National League South, albeit Scott Davies' side find themselves 21st in the table, having taken just 15 points from their opening 16 games.

Regardless, there are plenty of gems within the non-league scene, with the aforementioned Berry making clear waves below senior level at present at Arbour Park.

As such, his goalscoring exploits, particularly in a competition in which spotlights can be cast on any player at any given moment and create the start of a successful career path, have alerted several clubs in the EFL.

However, it is Kieran McKenna's side who are looking to front the queue ahead of the upcoming festive period, with the Tractor Boys taking a closer look at Berry's attributes as they weigh up a decision in the meantime.

As previously mentioned, Berry is emerging as the next hidden gem at Slough, mainly due to his form in the Youth Cup, which saw him find the back of the net five times in just three encounters for Ryan Case's so-called Elite Development Squad.

This included two goals in a 6-2 rout against local rivals, Maidenhead United at York Road in the second qualifying round, adding to his first goal in the competition, which also came in the thick of another goal fest in a 5-2 home success over Broadfields United on September 17th.

At 6"2, Berry clearly has several attributes which have caught the attention of staff at Portman Road, and Football League World can now exclusively reveal that the young prospect is now on trial with the Championship's pre-season title favourites.

The Northern Irishman and his relevant staff are set to cast eyes on the young forward's progress having fended off competition from several other sides across the Championship, League One or League Two in order to do so.

However, the identity of those looking to also land Berry's services, even on an initial trial basis, are yet to be revealed at this moment in time.

Given his previous roles at Manchester United and now in Suffolk, McKenna is known for being able to identify some of English football's hottest young commodities, with the likes of Liam Delap, Omari Hutchinson and Jaden Philogene among the first who come to mind during his near four-year spell with Ipswich.

It remains to be seen whether Berry will be kept on in Suffolk, with Ipswich's Under-18s also having an FA Youth Cup campaign to focus on themselves, having been drawn against Sheffield United in the third round - a tie which has to be played before Saturday, December 13th.
