Now 31-years-old, Robertson seems to face an uncertain future. Kerkez will likely be the club's first choice option and Robertson will have to fight for his place with the Hungarian.
Whether he wants to do that remains to be seen. It's possible Robertson could still leave the club. However, in an exclusive interview with Anfield Watch on our YouTube channel, former Liverpool player Adam Bogdan told us, he believes Robertson and Kerkez fighting for their place would be the perfect mix.
Bogdan who played alongside Robertson at Liverpool said the following:
"Listen, I think that's a perfect mix there in my opinion because Andy Robertson I know there's a lot of suggestions that he's maybe over his feet, but I know him and he is a fighter, you know, and he played so many games this season and yes there was a couple of mistakes, but who doesn't make mistakes?
"So he has been great and I'm sure that he will not give up his position just like this, but there are so many games and that position on the wingback position, it requires so much stamina and strength to go on. And the fact that you can change the players, I think that could be a position that can be very dynamic on the right Frimpong and Bradley and on the left, layers to swap.
"So there is a chance to get substituted in the 60th or 70th minute to get fresh energy.
"So I think the fact that you have an unbelievably good left back with wealth of experience, winning titles who may be turning into the last period of his career, I've said very carefully because he's only 31, but then you have a 21-year-old with two years of experience in the Premier League who has the energy to go on for a hundred or 90 minutes if he wants, but you still have to learn this sort of top club, the pressure that comes with it, that you have to win every game. You have to win every game, and you have to compete in every competition.
"I think that's a perfect mix. If I was a sporting director, if I was somebody who made that decision as a club, I would see it as a perfect setup."
We can certainly see that sentiment and that way of thinking. A lot will hinge on what decision Robertson makes about his future.
