Today’s Daily Briefing has some exclusive information about Chelsea’s interest in a top young centre back.

Mark Brus writes that the Blues are on a list of teams, along with Manchester United and Arsenal, who are “names to watch in the race to sign one of Serie A’s top young talents.”

That player is Jacobo Ramon, currently shining for Cesc Fabregas’ Como. The links with a Premier League move this summer were pretty strong, but it seems the 21 year old has decided to stay another year with his current team.

“Chelsea in particular remain keen on Ramon,” Brus writes.

“And some figures in the industry expect them to try opening talks over a deal ahead of January. Others insist this is unlikely as Como will flat-out refuse to negotiate anything until at least the summer.

We’ve always thought that the most likely case was that Real Madrid exercise their buy back clause on Ramon and then either use him themselves or sell him on. Can Chelsea jump the queue? It really depends on the terms of that buy-back.
