FLW has Don Goodman's three most exciting teams of 25/26 so far
Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has identified three clubs across the EFL pyramid that have caught his attention during the early stages of the current campaign.
The former striker enjoyed a distinguished playing career in the lower leagues of English football - with clubs including Bradford City, West Bromwich Albion, Sunderland and Walsall.
So, seeing as he played up-front, there’s no surprise that he’s exclusively mentioned to FLW some sides that have impressed him with their early attacking prowess. After all, Goodman did find the back of the net 162 times himself.
Picking one club from each of the Championship, League One, and League Two, it might just be a coincidence that two of the three he used to play for - or that they really are off to a very exciting start.
We'll let you decide! FLW has Don Goodman's three most exciting teams of 25/26 so far, below.
In the Championship, Goodman's choice is clear-cut as he expressed his excitement about Frank Lampard's Coventry City side and their remarkable goal-scoring exploits.
"In the Championship it would have to be Coventry City," Goodman stated when discussing his most exciting teams.
"Scoring 27 goals in nine games, unbelievable really to be fair to them, and I look at their impending fixtures and I do think that they can stretch away at the top really if they can keep their performance levels up."
The Sky Blues have been nothing short of sensational under Lampard's guidance, going from two points above the relegation places when he arrived in November last year to genuine promotion contenders.
As Goodman noted, their attacking display has been phenomenal - and it’s seen them average exactly three goals per game across their opening nine fixtures.
Looking ahead to their fixture list, Goodman is confident that the West Midlands outfit can start to increase the gap at the top.
"Blackburn, Portsmouth, Watford, Wrexham, Sheffield United are the next five games, so, excited for Coventry."
For League One, Goodman's heart and head aligned as he selected his former club Bradford City, although he did give genuine tactical reasons for their inclusion.
"In terms of League One, I don't know whether it's my heart ruling my head really, but, it would have to be Bradford City," Goodman admitted.
"We'll give an honourable mention to Stevenage obviously they are everybody's surprise."
What makes Bradford's position particularly impressive for Goodman is the quality of opposition they have already faced and beat.
"But I think Bradford are a surprise as well, and whilst the fixture computer has been good to Stevenage, in terms of they haven't played many - I think they've played one of the top teams and lost, Bradford have played six out of the top eleven and they've played four of the five immediately below them."
Clearly, the Bantams have shown good resilience to win against - on paper -stronger opposition, maintaining an excellent record when it matters most. "They've won all four of those games against the teams below them, so excited as an ex-Bradford City player," Goodman noted with evident pride.
In League Two, Goodman selected another of his former clubs, Walsall, praising their ability to bounce back from last season's heartbreak.
"League Two, another old club of mine, Walsall," Goodman declared.
"I do think that for them to get over the harrowing blow of losing a massive lead at the top of League Two, and then lose in a playoff final in which they never turned up, it's been very, very impressive."
It’s worth a reminder that, having established a twelve-point lead at the top of League Two in January, Walsall suffered a huge collapse that saw them finish fourth - and they ultimately lost in the playoff final at Wembley to AFC Wimbledon.
Yes, the impact of such a devastating end to their promotion hopes could have been overwhelming, but Walsall have shown remarkable character in their response.
