Sunderland are ready to make a move for Scotland international Stephen O’Donnell, Football League World can exclusively reveal.
The Black Cats will be eager to try and earn promotion this season coming from Sky Bet League One with Lee Johnson the man tasked with trying to oversee that, after they fell short in the play-offs once more last season at the hands of Lincoln City.
He’s been adding to his squad this summer to help with that aim then, and is now ready to look at a potential deal to bring in the right-back from Motherwell before the transfer window is up.
Football League World has been told that the Black Cats feel as though they could get the player in this summer for less than £500,000, with him currently possessing two years left on his contract with the men from Fir Park having joined them in 2020 from Kilmarnock.
The Scottish international featured for the Tartan Army during the European Championships and has earned over 20 caps for his international side since his debut for them in 2018.
He has also played in the EFL before, featuring for Luton Town between 2015 and 2017, and so will be eager to use that experience at the Stadium of Light if this deal goes through.
